A moving documentary about Animal Place‘s rescue of thousands of hens from an abandoned factory egg farm in Turlock, California. A must see!
Here’s a single ingredient, super healthy treat my dogs love:
-Quarter two medium sweet potatoes
-Slice the potatoes thinly by hand or with a food processor
-Place sliced potatoes on lined dehydrator sheets in a single layer
-Dehydrate at 125 degrees for about five hours
-Store in an airtight container
The community beach stairs near my house are just about finished, so we decided to take the dogs for an early evening stroll on the beach. They loved it. Maya followed a bird into the water and surprised us with an unexpected swim. A fearless pup!
Maya checking out the waves
Going for a quick swim
Chloe exploring the beach, excited about all of the new smells
Off leash fun!
The way back home. 145 stairs and more to come. Quite a workout!
There’s a great blog post about the Long Island Animal Rights and Veg Fest held in Huntington last weekend on SuperVegan. I was planning to blog more about this, but I think this post covers everything quite well and I had such a good time and was so busy I forgot to take out my camera.
I’d just like to add that it was so nice to see so many compassionate and caring people in one place. I met a bunch of wonderful people while volunteering for one of my favorite animal rights organizations and learned about an organization that I somehow had never heard of – Long Island Orchestrating for Nature (LION). It was an awesome day and I’m looking forward to next year.
365 Vegan Smoothies Review
Those of you who know me know that I don’t like fruit all that much (I think the texture is what bothers me most). Well, I’ve been trying to incorporate more fruit in my diet and improve my breakfast options. This book helps me with both. Since the book arrived, I’ve a bunch of the recipes, including: Sassy Green Kickstart; Fresh Blackberry Buzz; Super Blue Recharge; Mojito Grape Frosty; and Chocolate-Covered Cherry. They’ve all been good and have allowed me to “sneak” in fruit I normally don’t eat. I highly recommend it if you’re looking to add more nutritious meals to your diet or diversify your smoothie options. All of the recipes are quick and easy. The author, Kathy Patalsky, is the person behind the blog Healthy-Happy-Life. Check out her blog for delicious and healthy vegan recipes. This book is a keeper!
I had a couple of ingredients in the fridge that I’ve never used before – Trader Joe’s Soy Chorizo and Cheddar Teese. I decided to make a pizza because, well, it is quick and easy and hard to mess up. For this pizza, I used TJ’s pizza dough and started with a layer of salsa, then added half a container of Teese. I topped it off with half a package of soy chorizo, mushrooms, onions and peppers and baked it at 375 degrees for about 30 minutes. The result? I’m definitely making it again. Next time, I’ll hold the salsa. The soy chorizo has so much flavor and spice on its own. The cheddar Teese complimented it nicely.
